English · 2014
This page covers the four products English released in 2014 — 494 cards: XY on 5 February, Flashfire on 7 May, Furious Fists on 13 August and Phantom Forces on 5 November. 125 of the 494 are cut from Japan's 2013 sets, 292 from Japan's 2014, and 77 have no Japanese card in this archive at all. The Japanese edition of 2014 — five releases, 452 cards — is the other page, and the two versions of this year overlap on 292 cards. The 160 cards Japan printed on 13 December 2014 are not here: they arrive as Primal Clash on 4 February 2015.
Four products, 494 cards, and a calendar that opens with Japan's previous year and closes before Japan's last one
English 2014 begins where Japan 2013 ended. XY on 5 February is Japan's December pair — 125 of the 494 cards on this page — and it is the set that finally brings Fairy, Mega Evolution, the RR mark and Fairy Energy across the water. Flashfire in May, Furious Fists in August and Phantom Forces in November then follow Japan within two to three months each, which is the tightest schedule this archive has recorded. 77 cards here have no Japanese card behind them, most of them added to fill out a release rather than to translate anything.
What English does differently this year is the gold cards. Japan prints gold Megas in March, June and September and gold Trainers in December; English prints the gold Megas and then stops, because the December packs are not part of its 2014 at all. M Charizard EX is where the two languages visibly disagree: Japan's 220 HP Fire version exists only as gold, and English prints it as an ordinary card at 069 while dropping the gold. 42 of the 494 cards are Pokémon-EX and 18 are Mega — and the tallest card is not the Mega but a 250 HP Wailord, which English does not print until February 2015.
Each set opens with what it was and when it landed, then every card in set order. The number line is the English one, and the four sets print to 146, 106, 111 and 119 — with 8 cards past the end across Flashfire, Furious Fists and Phantom Forces. Four cards sit outside the sequence entirely — 88a, 55a, 24a and 65a, alternate printings numbered off the card they repeat.
About the pairing, which runs the other way here. Every card was traced back to a Japanese card where one exists: 292 match Japan's 2014, 125 match Japan's 2013, and 77 match nothing in this archive. The link is made through the Japanese card's English printing and then checked on name, HP, number of attacks and each attack's damage, so a card is only called the same card when it is one. Where no Japanese card exists the link is absent rather than approximate, and each set carries a Japan-versus-English block listing what does not cross.
This page documents 494 main-series cards across four products on four release dates in 2014. It covers cards printed outside Japan only; printings for other editions are tracked separately.

How many of these 494 cards are shown with a card face? All 494 cards have a card face on record.
XY, 146 cards. Japan's December 2013 pair, 125 cards of it, plus 21 with no Japanese counterpart. Fairy, Mega Evolution, the RR mark and Fairy Energy all arrive on the same day — the Japanese packs had no Fairy Energy to carry.
Wild Blaze (ワイルドブレイズ), 90 cards, in Japan. M Charizard-EX is printed three times here, and the Fire 220 HP version exists only as a gold card — the card English will print as an ordinary card two months later.
Flashfire, 110 cards. All 90 of Wild Blaze plus 20 additions, and M Charizard EX printed four times at 013, 069, 107 and 108. Two months after Japan.
Rising Fist (ライジングフィスト), 105 cards, in Japan — the biggest Japanese set of the year, and the one that brings Strong Energy, the Stadium trio and two Special Energy in a single pack.
Furious Fists, 114 cards. All 105 of Rising Fist, two months after Japan — the shortest gap of the year — plus nine additions and a 55a alternate printing.
Phantom Gate (ファントムゲート), 97 cards, in Japan. Night March, Spirit Link and Team Flare Hyper Gear all start here, in the same pack, seven weeks before English sees any of it.
Phantom Forces, 124 cards. All 97 of Phantom Gate plus 27 additions — the largest English-only block of the year. Seven weeks after Japan, and the last English product of 2014.
2014-02-05. 146 cards — 120 Pokémon, 15 Trainers and 11 Energy, 12 of them Pokémon-EX and 2 Mega; 48 commons, 42 uncommons, 42 rares, 14 full-art cards; Grass 20, Colorless 17, Water 14, Darkness 13, Fairy 12, Psychic 11, Fighting 10, Fire 9, Metal 8 and Lightning 6; 29 artists worked on it and 5ban Graphics drew 54.
The first English set of the XY era, and none of it is Japan's 2014. All 146 cards are Japan's December 2013 pair — 125 of them card for card from Collection X and Collection Y — plus 21 that have no Japanese card in this archive. Fairy, Mega Evolution and the RR mark all reach English on 5 February, eight weeks after Japan, and Fairy Energy arrives with them, because the Japanese packs carried none. The six EX names are the December pair's: Venusaur, Blastoise, Emolga, Yveltal, Skarmory and Xerneas, each with a full-art at 141–146. M Venusaur EX at 002 is 230 HP and M Blastoise EX at 030 is 220 — the two tallest cards printed in English this year.
Japan's December pair is 126 cards and this set takes 125 of them, so what the block below lists is mostly what English added: 21 cards with no Japanese counterpart, the Fairy Energy the Japanese packs never carried, and nothing at all from Japan's 2014. The one Japanese card left behind is the starter-deck Tierno, which English had already printed in the Kalos Starter Set in November 2013.
Not in these Japanese sets (21 names): Darkness Energy, Fairy Energy, Fairy Garden, Fighting Energy, Fire Energy, Grass Energy, Great Ball, Inkay, Jigglypuff, Lightning Energy, Malamar, Metal Energy, Mr. Mime, Psychic Energy, Sableye, Shadow Circle, Shauna, Water Energy, Wigglytuff, Xerneas, Yveltal
Only in the Japanese set (1): Tierno

All 90 cards of Japan's March 2014 set, plus 20 English additions. The additions are the interesting part: M Charizard EX appears four times — 013 the Dragon-type 230 HP version, 069 the Fire-type 220 HP version that Japan printed only as a gold card, and 107 and 108 as the two secret printings — while Japan's gold M Charizard never appears in English at all. English gets the card Japan hid and loses the one Japan made gold. 109 M Kangaskhan EX is the other secret. The 106-card official count and the 110 cards here differ by three secrets at 107–109 and one alternate printing, 88a.
Japan's March set is 90 cards and this one is 110, so the comparison is not a translation check: 20 cards are English additions, and the M Charizard line moves in opposite directions in the two languages. Japan prints the Fire 220 HP version as gold only; English prints it as an ordinary card and drops the gold.
Not in this Japanese set (19 names, 20 cards): Blacksmith, Charizard EX, Flabébé, Fletchinder, Fletchling, Floette, Furfrou, Krokorok, Litleo, M Charizard EX, Pal Pad, Sandile, Scrafty, Scraggy, Sneasel, Spritzee, Stunky, Torkoal, Ultra Ball
5 of those names also turn up elsewhere in Japan's 2014. That is a statement about names, not cards: the same Pokémon was often printed more than once, with different HP, attacks and art. The English edition never matched a Japanese set one for one, so a name missing from this Japanese set may still belong to a card Japan printed that year.

All 105 cards of Japan's June set, two months late, plus 9 additions. The gap is the shortest of the year: Japan printed the cards on 14 June and English had them on 13 August. Both gold cards arrive as Megas at 112 and 113 — M Heracross EX and M Lucario EX — which is the only year in this archive where English gold cards are all Mega Pokémon. 55a is a numbered alternate printing of M Lucario EX sitting outside the sequence, which makes this set the only one of the four with a card number that is not a plain integer.
Japan's June set is 105 cards and this one is 114. Nine additions, and the shortest Japan-to-English gap of the year — two months. Every Japanese card crosses; nothing is left behind in Japan this time.
Not in this Japanese set (9 names): Clefairy, Energy Switch, Full Heal, Hawlucha EX, M Lucario EX, Pancham, Pikachu, Raichu, Super Scoop Up

All 97 cards of Japan's September set, seven weeks late, plus 27 additions — the largest English-only block of the year. Night March, Spirit Link and Team Flare Hyper Gear all reach English here on 5 November. The three secrets at 120–122 are M Manectric EX, M Gengar EX and Dialga EX — the first two match Japan, the third has no Japanese counterpart in this set. Lysandre's Trump Card at 118 is the card that is later banned from the Standard format in both languages. The 119-card official count and the 124 listed here also differ by two alternate printings, 24a and 65a.
Japan's September set is 97 cards and this one is 124, a 27-card difference that is almost entirely English additions rather than Japanese omissions. All 97 Japanese cards cross, including the three Night March cards and both gold Megas.

Primal Clash, 164 cards — the set that finally carries the 160 Japanese cards of 13 December 2014. Primal Reversion and the Ancient Trait reach English here, seven weeks after Japan, together with Wailord-EX at 250 HP, Silent Lab, and the four gold Trainers — Switch, Weakness Policy, Enhanced Hammer and Dive Ball.
What 2014 settles in English is the lag. Flashfire is two months behind Japan, Furious Fists two, Phantom Forces seven weeks — and then the December packs wait three months instead, because English puts two Japanese sets into one February release. The gold-card policy diverges and stays diverged: English prints gold Megas three times in 2014 and never prints a gold Trainer, which is exactly what Japan does in December. The one card both languages regret is Lysandre's Trump Card, banned from the Standard format in 2015 after a year of every deck running four.
Release dates and product identities are connected to the English edition release register by set code. Sources are printed per product so a reader can check the claim without trusting this page alone. Unmatched products say so instead of borrowing another edition’s citation.
xy1 verified_secondaryxy2 verified_secondaryxy3 verified_secondaryxy4 verified_secondaryAll 494 cards of the four English products are listed. The counts match the card database that holds the English scans: 146 in XY, 110 in Flashfire, 114 in Furious Fists and 124 in Phantom Forces. 8 cards print past the printed total and are shown as printed; XY's official count and its card count are the same number, so it contributes none.
The English card is the first-hand source for the English page, and the Japanese card is the first-hand source for the Japanese one — the two pages are not translations of each other. Where a Japanese card exists, the pairing is shown and the stats on this page stay English: HP, type, stage, retreat cost, illustrator and every attack are read from the English printing, because the English and Japanese cards occasionally differ in wording even when the numbers match.
The pairing is the whole method, and it was done card by card. 292 cards trace to Japan's 2014, 125 to Japan's 2013, and 77 to nothing. The test is name, HP, number of attacks, each attack's damage reduced to its digits, and at least one attack name matching after normalising case and punctuation. Team Flare Gear and Team Flare Hyper Gear are the one place the names do not match, because English prints the category inside the card name — Battle Compressor Team Flare Gear against Japan's バトルコンプレッサー(フレア団ギア) — so those five cards were matched on effect text instead. No card is called the same card on a guess.
292 of the 452 Japanese cards of 2014 reach English inside 2014, 160 on 4 February 2015, and none is left behind. The English year is 494 cards because it adds 77 of its own, and because its first product — XY — is entirely Japan's 2013. 125 of the 494 cards belong to the Japanese page for 2013, which is why this page and that one share those cards.
Every -EX card is a Basic, and Mega is not. All cards whose name ends in EX are Basic on the face. Mega Evolution is printed as its own stage, evolves from the EX of the same Pokémon, and ends your turn when it appears — the rule that Manectric Spirit Link at 113 switches off. M Charizard EX is the card to look at if you want to see how the two languages differ: Japan prints the Fire 220 HP version as gold only, English prints it as an ordinary card at 069 and then prints two gold Charizards that Japan's set does not contain.
The rarity names are the English ones, not the Japanese ones. English 2014 uses Common, Uncommon, Rare, Holo Rare, Ultra Rare and Secret Rare, and its full-art cards are numbered inside the printed total — the opposite of Japan, where the full-art is an SR past the end. That is why the counts on this page and the counts on the Japanese page for the same set do not line up: 110 English cards against 90 Japanese for the same March release.
Ancient Traits and Primal Reversion do not appear on this page at all. Neither mechanic exists in English 2014: they arrive with Primal Clash on 4 February 2015. What this year's English cards carry instead is the XY base set of Trainers — Lysandre, Professor Sycamore, Ultra Ball, Muscle Band — and the four Special Energy of the era, plus Fairy Energy in XY.
About the scans and what is not here. All 494 card faces are full-size English scans, each one shown here scaled down from that original, never enlarged from a smaller copy. The XY Black Star Promos, the prerelease cards, the league and tournament handouts, the Trainer Kits and the deck products sold beside the packs are all real 2014 cards and none is listed, because none has a per-card release date and distribution condition that could be verified. 40 artists are credited across the four sets and every card carries a credit. The four boosters are complete — 494 cards, 58 of them full-art and 8 secret — and that is the whole claim this page makes.
Four products, 494 cards, 42 Pokémon-EX and 18 Megas — and a year in which English spends February finishing Japan's 2013 and then catches up so fast that by November the gap is seven weeks. 2014 is the last year the English calendar is behind Japan by more than a quarter, and the last year its gold cards are all Megas. What it does not have is Primals, Ancient Traits, Wailord at 250 HP or Silent Lab: those are in the 160 Japanese cards of 13 December, and they wait until 4 February 2015.
