Japan · 2015
This page covers all 468 Japanese cards of 2015, in seven releases: 34 on 30 January, 91 on 14 March, 97 on 20 June, 27 on 18 July, 65 and 65 on 26 September, and 89 on 11 December. Six release days, seven products, and two of them are four-card concept packs at 200 yen rather than five-card expansions. The year adds one new stage — BREAK Evolution, seven cards from September — and changes its Ancient Trait twice, from Ω to Δ in March and from Δ to θ in June. The English edition of 2015 is 575 cards across five products, and 366 of these 468 cards are printed in English inside the year: 34 in Double Crisis on 25 March, 91 in Roaring Skies on 6 May, 97 in Ancient Origins on 12 August, and 130 across BREAKthrough on 4 November — the whole of both September packs — plus 14 Legendary Shine reprints whose English card is the identical card printed in another set. 89 cross on 3 February 2016 as BREAKpoint — the whole of December's pack — and 9 never cross at all (the rest of the Legendary Shine Collection). The rest of English's 575 belongs to Japan's 2014: Primal Clash takes all 160 cards of the December 2014 pair, plus four of its own.
Seven releases, 468 cards, seven BREAK cards and two Ancient Traits in one year — and the last year Japan runs ahead of the West
2015 is the year the card grows a new stage on top of an old one. On 26 September, in two packs released the same morning, BREAK Evolution arrives: a card that sits on top of a Stage 1 or Stage 2, keeps every attack underneath, raises the HP, and prints no type and no Retreat Cost at all. Seven of them appear before the year ends, and the last, Greninja BREAK, throws six damage counters a turn without attacking. The same year changes its Ancient Trait twice — Δ in March, where five cards take an extra Prize and four evolve the turn they are played, then θ in June, where five cards ignore the opponent's Abilities, six hold two Tools, and the three gold cards heal completely on arrival.
The numbers hold and the shape changes. 468 cards in seven products, 55 Pokémon-EX prints from 26 names, 27 Mega prints from 13 names, 40 full-art cards and 10 gold cards as secrets, 50 cards printed past their own total, 57 Trainers, 8 Energy and 48 artists. The tallest card is 240 HP — M Tyranitar-EX and M Gyarados-EX, and the two Primals reprinted in gold — so nothing gets bigger than 2014's ceiling. What gets bigger is the number of things a card does without attacking: Puzzle of Time plays from the discard pile, Max Elixir accelerates from the top of the deck, Delinquent strips three cards out of the opponent's hand, and a single Tool on Garbodor switches off every Ability on the table. Two of the seven products are concept packs at 200 yen for four cards, and one of them, the Legendary Shine Collection, is the only 2015 release English never printed.
Every card below is the Japanese printing, with its Japanese scan, its Japanese name as printed, and its attack text in English.
Cards are grouped by the product they were sold in. The four-card concept packs sit in the same list as the expansions, because they are cards you could buy.
This page documents 468 main-series cards across seven products on six release dates in 2015. It covers cards printed in Japan only; printings for other editions are tracked separately.

Double Crisis (マグマ団VSアクア団 ダブルクライシス, CP1), 34 cards at 200 yen for four. A concept pack, not an expansion: two complete decks, Team Magma and Team Aqua, both EX cards carrying the same Ability that stops them attacking while your side is thin. No secret band, no full-art, no gold.
Primal Clash, 164 cards — English's cut of the two packs Japan printed on 13 December 2014. All 160 of those cards arrive here, plus four of English's own. Primal Reversion and the Ancient Trait reach English on the same day, eight weeks after Japan. No 2015 Japanese card is in this set: English's year opens with last year's December.
Emerald Break (エメラルドブレイク, XY6), 91 cards. The Ancient Trait switches from Ω to Δ — five cards take an extra Prize, four evolve the turn they are played. 062 M Rayquaza-EX is Colourless at 220 HP with Emerald Break, and 077 Sky Field raises the Bench to eight in the same pack, because the attack counts your Bench. 063 Shaymin-EX's Set Up becomes the most played card of the year.
Double Crisis (dc1), 34 cards. Japan's January concept pack, printed in English two months later — the same 34 cards in a different order: English 23 is Aqua Diffuser, which is Japanese 25. This is the only 2015 English product with no new cards of its own.
Roaring Skies, 112 cards. All 91 of Emerald Break, plus 21 English-only cards. Shaymin-EX and M Rayquaza-EX arrive here, and so does 096 Trainers' Mail, which by the end of the year is in every deck in the room.
Bandit Ring (バンデットリング, XY7), 97 cards. The Ancient Trait changes again, to θ, and the three Megas — Sceptile, Ampharos, Tyranitar — each ship with a Spirit Link so Mega Evolving stops costing a turn. 036 Hoopa-EX debuts, and five gold cards close the set, three of them Primals.
Legendary Shine Collection (伝説キラコレクション, CP2), 27 cards at 200 yen for four. Every card a Pokémon, no Trainers, no Energy — new-art reprints of the starters, the legendary pairs, both Kyurem formes, Arceus and Regigigas, plus Pikachu-EX and a Hoopa-EX that searches Items instead of Pokémon-EX. This product is never printed in English: 14 of its cards are identical to an English card printed in another set, 4 more have an English card of the same species that is not the same card, and 9 have no English printing at all.
Ancient Origins, 101 cards. All 97 of Bandit Ring plus four English-only cards. θ reaches English, the three Spirit Links arrive with their Megas, and Hex Maniac and Forest of Giant Plants enter the format on the same day.
Blue Shock and Red Flash (青い衝撃 / 赤い閃光, XY8), 65 and 65 cards, the same morning. BREAK Evolution debuts in both, two cards each — Zoroark BREAK and Florges BREAK in Blue, Chesnaught BREAK and Marowak BREAK in Red. Mewtwo-EX is in both packs and the two are different cards: 230 HP Vanishing Strike against 210 HP Psychic Infinity. 054 Float Stone, 057 Brigette, 058 Parallel City, 074 Fighting Fury Belt's predecessor set of Tools — the pivot and setup engine of the next two seasons arrives in these two packs.
BREAKthrough, 164 cards. Both September packs merged — all 130 Japanese cards, plus 34 English-only — and BREAK Evolution reaches English seven weeks after Japan. No Japanese card of 2015 is left waiting except December's.
Rage of the Broken Heavens (破天の怒り, XY9), 89 cards. 030 Greninja BREAK places six damage counters a turn without attacking, 040 Garbodor switches off every Ability in play while holding a Tool, and 072 Max Elixir starts accelerating off the top of the deck. Every one of these 89 cards waits for English.

The sixth XY expansion, and the one where the Ancient Trait changed to Δ. Seventy-eight numbered cards at 001/078–078/078, then eleven full-art cards at 079–089 and two gold cards at 090–091, making 91. Δ comes in two forms: Δ Plus, which takes an extra Prize when it knocks something out, on five cards, and Δ Evolution, which evolves the turn it is played, on four. The face of the set is M Rayquaza-EX at 062 — Colourless, 220 HP, with an attack named after the pack itself, Emerald Break. Six EX names (Rayquaza, Latios, Gallade, Hydreigon, Shaymin, Thundurus), three of them Mega. Shaymin-EX at 063, with Set Up, became the most expensive non-Mega EX of the year and the engine half the format ran on. All ninety-one reached English on 6 May 2015 in Roaring Skies, which runs 108 plus two. 162 yen is the tax-inclusive price (150 yen plus 8%); the 150 yen figure quoted by 52poke is the same price before tax. Seal ratios were not published and are not quoted here.
2015-03-14. 91 cards — 77 Pokémon, 13 Trainers and 1 Energy, 12 of them Pokémon-EX and 6 Mega; 37 commons, 23 uncommons, 9 rares, 9 Double Rares, 11 full-art cards, 2 gold cards; 20 Colourless, 15 Dragon, 12 Grass, 11 Psychic, 5 Lightning, 4 Water, 4 Fairy, 2 Fire, 2 Fighting, 1 Darkness and 1 Metal; 42 artists worked on it and 5ban Graphics drew 12.
The pack where the Ancient Trait changes from Ω to Δ, and the year's most expensive non-Mega EX arrives. Seventy-eight numbered cards, eleven full-art (079–089) and two golds (090–091) — Energy Switch and VS Seeker, Trainers rather than Megas, which is the pattern 2015 follows all year. Δ comes in two forms: Δ Plus on five cards (five counted), which takes an extra Prize when it knocks something out, and Δ Evolution on four, which evolves the turn it is played. The face card is 062 M Rayquaza-EX, Colourless, 220 HP, with an attack named after the pack — Emerald Break, 30 for each Pokémon on your Bench, which is why 077 Sky Field raises the Bench to eight and why the two cards sit in the same pack. 063 Shaymin-EX with Set Up (draw to six when it is benched) became the most played card of the year and stays there into 2016. Six EX names (Rayquaza, Latios, Gallade, Hydreigon, Shaymin, Thundurus), three of them Mega. All 91 cards reach English on 6 May 2015 as Roaring Skies.

The seventh XY expansion: the Ancient Trait becomes θ, and all three Megas get a Spirit Link. Eighty-one numbered cards at 001/081–081/081, then eleven full-art cards at 082–092 and five gold cards at 093–097, making 97. There are three θ forms: θ Stop, which blanks the opponent's Abilities, on five cards, θ Double, which allows two Tools, on six, and θ Max, a full heal when the Pokémon becomes this one, on three. θ Max appears only on the three gold cards — Primal Kyogre-EX, Primal Groudon-EX and M Rayquaza-EX. Hoopa-EX at 036 debuts here, with Scoundrel Ring searching out three Pokémon-EX. Three Megas — Sceptile, Ampharos, Tyranitar — each ship with a Spirit Link at 073–075, so Mega Evolving no longer ends the turn. English gets it on 12 August 2015 as Ancient Origins, 98 plus five. 162 yen is the tax-inclusive price (150 yen plus 8%); the 150 yen figure quoted by 52poke is the same price before tax. The θ set, and the pack that gives all three Megas a Spirit Link. Eighty-one numbered cards, eleven full-art (082–092) and five golds (093–097) — three of them Primal Kyogre-EX, Primal Groudon-EX and M Rayquaza-EX, the only cards in the year carrying θ Max, which heals the Pokémon completely the moment it becomes that card. The rest of the pack is θ Stop on five cards (the opponent's Abilities do nothing to it) and θ Double on six (two Pokémon Tools on one body). 036 Hoopa-EX debuts here — Scoundrel Ring searches three Pokémon-EX out of the deck the moment it hits the Bench, and it defines every deck of the next two years. 073–075 are the Spirit Links for M Sceptile, M Ampharos and M Tyranitar, so Mega Evolving stops costing a turn. The Trainer list is the year's skeleton: 071 Level Ball, 077 Hex Maniac, 079 Forest of Giant Plants, 097 Trainers' Mail. All 97 cards reach English on 12 August 2015 as Ancient Origins.

One half of XY8, and the pack where BREAK Evolution debuts. Fifty-nine numbered cards at 001/059–059/059, then five full-art cards at 060–064 and one gold card at 065, making 65. There are two BREAK cards — Zoroark BREAK at 037 and Florges BREAK at 043 — which keep every attack underneath, raise the HP, and add their own attack or Ability on top. A BREAK card prints no type and no Retreat Cost, which is what the card face looks like. Two EX names (Glalie, Mewtwo) and two Megas. M Mewtwo-EX at 026 is the 230 HP Vanishing Strike print — 200 with a Stadium in play, and it ignores Resistance and every effect on the opponent's Active. Brigette at 057 and Parallel City at 058 rebuilt the year's decks. English gets it on 4 November 2015 in BREAKthrough, merged with Red Flash at 162 plus four. 162 yen is the tax-inclusive price (150 yen plus 8%); the 150 yen figure quoted by 52poke is the same price before tax. One half of 26 September, and the half that introduces BREAK Evolution. Fifty-nine numbered cards, five full-art (060–064) and one gold (065). Two BREAK cards debut here — 037 Zoroark BREAK and 043 Florges BREAK — and the rule they introduce is that a BREAK card prints no type and no Retreat Cost, keeps every attack underneath, raises the HP, and adds one attack or Ability of its own. 037 Zoroark BREAK's Foul Play copies whatever attack the opponent's Active has, which is the cleanest use of the mechanic all year. The Mega of the pack is 026 M Mewtwo-EX at 230 HP with Vanishing Strike — 200 with a Stadium down, ignoring Resistance and every effect. 054 Float Stone, 057 Brigette and 058 Parallel City all come from here, and between them they rebuilt how decks pivot and how they set up. English folds this into BREAKthrough on 4 November 2015, together with Red Flash.

A four-card concept pack at 200 yen, not a regular expansion. Thirty-four cards, numbered 001/034–034/034, with no full-art and no gold cards — this kind of pack runs in one configuration from first card to last and has no secret number band. The contents are literally two decks: all 22 Pokémon are named Team Magma's or Team Aqua's, and both sides carry an attack that gets stronger when it looks at the other team (Hail Storm on the Aqua side, Hostile Fang on the Magma side). Two EX cards — Team Aqua's Kyogre-EX at 006 and Team Magma's Groudon-EX at 015 — both with the Ability Power Saver, which stops them attacking while you have four or fewer of your own team in play. English prints the same 34 cards as dc1 Double Crisis on 25 March 2015, but in a different order: English 23 is Aqua Diffuser, which is Japanese 25. The number of packs in a box was never published, so none is quoted.

A four-card concept pack at 200 yen, not an expansion, and the first thing Japan saw in 2015. Thirty-four cards numbered 001/034–034/034, and no secret band at all: no full-art, no gold, nothing past the printed total. The contents are two decks — 22 Pokémon all named Team Magma's or Team Aqua's, ten Trainers, and two Special Energy that only attach to one team (033 Double Aqua, 034 Double Magma). Both EX cards carry the same Ability, Power Saver: four or fewer of your own team in play and the 180-HP-odd EX cannot attack at all. The two sides are built against each other — 004 Hail Storm does 60 more against a Team Magma Active, 019 Hostile Fang 40 more against Team Aqua — and 021 Sharpedo searches a Team Aqua Pokémon every turn off a free retreat, which is the card the deck is built on. English prints the same 34 cards as dc1 Double Crisis on 25 March 2015, but in a different order: English 23 is Aqua Diffuser, which is Japanese 25 here.

A four-card concept pack at 200 yen: 27 cards, every one of them a Pokémon, with no Trainers and no Energy at all. The contents are reprints with new artwork — the three Kalos starters, Reshiram and Zekrom, Palkia and Dialga, Latias and Latios, both Kyurem formes, Arceus, Regigigas, Pikachu-EX and Hoopa-EX — redrawn for this pack. Every card is shiny, but the rarity bands stay ordinary C / U / R, with only the two EX cards (Pikachu-EX and Hoopa-EX) at RR; there is no full-art and no gold. There is no English product for this. Cards with the same names exist in English sets, but with different art and different numbers — these 27 cards are Japan-only. The number of packs in a box was never published, so none is quoted.

Twenty-seven cards, all Pokémon, no Trainers and no Energy — a four-card pack at 200 yen, and the only 2015 Japanese release that never reached English at all. What it contains is reprints with new artwork: the three Kalos starters and their Evolutions, Reshiram and Zekrom, Palkia and Dialga, Latias and Latios, both Kyurem formes, Arceus, Regigigas, Meowth, Braviary, Noibat, and two EX cards — 008 Pikachu-EX and 012 Hoopa-EX. Every card is shiny, and every card keeps an ordinary rarity band: twelve commons, three uncommons, ten rares and only the two EX at RR, with no full-art and no gold. 008 Pikachu-EX is the interesting one: Iron Tail flips until tails for 30 a heads on a single Colourless, and Overspark discards every Lightning on it for 50 each. Hoopa-EX here is not the Bandit Ring card — it searches Items rather than Pokémon-EX, and it is the reason this pack reads as a stand-alone cube rather than a set.

Also released this year: English edition.
BREAKpoint, 126 cards — English's cut of Rage of the Broken Heavens. All 89 cards of December's pack arrive here, seven weeks after Japan, and with them θ reaches English for the last time, Garbodor and Garbotoxin enter the format, and Puzzle of Time and Max Elixir start showing up in every deck list. This is the only 2015 Japanese card that English prints in 2016, and it closes the year: after 3 February, every 2015 card that was ever going to cross has crossed.
What 2015 settles is that the card can grow upward without growing outward. BREAK Evolution adds a stage and prints no type, no Retreat Cost and no new body — the card is literally a strip of artwork laid over the one underneath. The Ancient Trait runs out of room by June: after θ, 2016 has nowhere to put another red or blue letter, and none appears. Two of the year's seven products are four-card packs at 200 yen, and one of them never leaves Japan, which is the first time since 2001 that a Japanese release has no English counterpart at all. The price settles at 162 yen tax-included and stays there through 2016, the packet is still five cards, and the gold slot has stopped being a Mega — nine of the year's ten gold cards are Trainers. What 2016 inherits is not a bigger card but a busier one: an Item that plays from the discard pile, a Tool that turns the whole table's Abilities off, and a BREAK that never has to attack.
Release dates and product identities are connected to the Japanese edition release register by set code. Sources are printed per product so a reader can check the claim without trusting this page alone. Unmatched products say so instead of borrowing another edition’s citation.
xy6 verified_secondaryxy7 verified_secondaryxy8b verified_secondaryxy8r verified_secondaryxy9 verified_secondarycp1 verified_secondarycp2 verified_secondaryAll 468 cards of the seven Japanese releases are listed, and none of them is reconstructed from a list of names. The counts match the card database that holds the Japanese scans: 34 in January, 91 in March, 97 in June, 27 in July, 65 and 65 in September, and 89 in December. 50 of them print past the end of their own set and are shown as printed rather than normalised — every one is a full-art or gold card. The two concept packs are the exception and are shown that way: CP1 stops at 034/034 and CP2 at 027/027 with nothing past the total, because that is how they were sold.
The Japanese printing is the first-hand source here. Type, HP, retreat cost, illustrator, every attack with its cost and its text, and the Japanese rules text of every Trainer are read from a Japanese listing of the card. English supplies two things only: the official English card name, and the verdict on whether the English printing is the same card. All 57 Trainers and 8 Energy cards carry the name printed on the Japanese card, including the possessive that the Team Magma and Team Aqua cards print (マグマ団のドンメル), and every Pokémon name was read from the card page rather than from a species list, because a card can be printed under a name the Pokédex does not use (メガレックウザEX, ゲンシカイオーガEX).
BREAK cards are recorded as their own stage. A BREAK card is not Basic, Stage 1 or Stage 2: it is laid on top of a card that already evolved, it prints no type and no Retreat Cost, and the Japanese card face writes BREAK進化 where a stage would go. This page writes BREAK Evolution for those seven cards and does not fold them into the stage underneath, because the HP and the attack list on the card are the BREAK card's own.
Primal Reversion and Mega Evolution are kept apart even though both say メガ on some listings. ゲンシカイオーガEX and ゲンシグラードンEX are Primal, not Mega — the Japanese card prints ゲンシ and the English card prints Primal — and both were fixed here after a first pass had prefixed them with メガ. Mega Rayquaza-EX exists twice in the year, at 220 HP Colourless in March and again as a gold card in June, and the two are listed separately because they are different cards.
The 4 cards marked as a different card are honest about it. In four cases the English card is the same species and a different card — different HP, different attacks — and nothing is borrowed from it: the English name is shown, the Japanese attacks stay Japanese-sourced, and the card is not counted as printed in English. The 9 cards with no English printing at all are all in the Legendary Shine Collection, and they are left that way rather than matched to a same-species card from another set.
Seven releases, 468 cards, 55 Pokémon-EX prints from 26 names and 27 Mega prints from 13, seven BREAK cards, 9 Δ and 14 θ Ancient Traits, and 366 of the 468 printed in English inside the year — with 89 following in February, 4 only as a different card, and 9 never following at all. 2015 is the year the card stops getting taller and starts getting busier: a strip of artwork that keeps the attacks underneath, a Tool that switches off the table, an Item that plays out of the discard pile, and two four-card packs sold for 200 yen that behave like decks rather than sets. The price is 162 yen tax-included and the packet is five cards, and neither changes again before 2017. What changes is that for the first time since 2001, a Japanese release is left behind: the Legendary Shine Collection never crosses, and the archive lists it as Japan-only rather than borrowing a card to fill the gap.
