2024 English edition almanac

• 01-26

Paldean Fates opens the English year at 245 cards — 154 of them secret, the largest secret block of any 2024 English product — and it is the one set of the year built entirely on Japan’s 2023: SV4a Shiny Treasure ex, carried across whole.

• 03-22

Temporal Forces brings ACE SPEC back to English after more than a decade, at 218 cards assembled from both January Japanese packs. 22 March is one of the year’s 3 shared release dates, and on each of them the two products are a step apart: Japan ships SV5a, English ships SV5K and SV5M.

• 05-24

Twilight Masquerade is the largest regular expansion of the year at 226 cards, taking SV6 plus the March enhanced pack, and it carries the all-four-masks block with it: 20 Tera Pokémon.

• 08-02

Shrouded Fable is a special set numbered sv06.5 — 99 cards, the smallest English product of the year, and the only one that is a single Japanese enhanced pack on its own.

• 09-13

Stellar Crown puts Stellar Tera into English at 175 cards, built almost entirely on SV7 with three cards pulled forward from SV7a. It ships on one of the year’s shared dates, and it is the only one where the contents overlap: 3 cards are printed in both languages on 13 September.

• 11-08

Surging Sparks closes the year at 252 cards, the largest English product of 2024 — SV8 plus most of September’s SV7a, so the year’s final English set is mostly a November printing of a September Japanese one, with Pikachu ex on the cover.

• 2025-01-17

Prismatic Evolutions carries Japan’s December high-class pack into English at 180 cards, five weeks after 2024 ends — the English printing of the year’s largest Japanese product, and the only 2024 Japanese set that has no English counterpart inside 2024.

What 2024 settles in English is that a set is now an assembly, not a translation. Two Japanese expansions are split across two English sets each, one English set is nothing but a Japanese set from the year before, and the two calendars share three dates — none of which lines up product for product. Counting the English year by counting Japan’s would be wrong by nine products and six sets.
