How to read a GUNDAM CARD GAME card number

Reading a card

A GUNDAM CARD GAME card number is the most useful thing printed on the card after its name, because it identifies the exact card rather than the subject. This page takes one apart and then shows every number family in the game.

Quick answer

A GUNDAM CARD GAME card number has three parts: the product family, the product within that family, and the card’s position in that product — in GD02-038, GD02 is the second booster pack and 038 is the card’s place in it. The number families in the game are GD for the main booster packs, ST for the starter decks, EB for the sixth booster pack, RP for promotional resources and R for resource cards.

One number, three parts

Take GD02-038. It reads left to right:

  • GD — the product family. GD is the main booster series.
  • 02 — which product in that family. GD02 is the second booster pack.
  • -038 — the card’s position in that product, in print order.

So the number tells you the product, and the product tells you the release. That is why every card here is filed by number, and why the checklists on this site run in number order rather than by rarity or by name.

The number families in the game

Starts with Cards What it is
GD 652 A main booster pack. Five of them, GD01 to GD05.
ST 214 A starter deck. Fourteen of them, ST01 to ST14.
EB 90 The sixth booster pack, Eternal Nexus.
RP 67 A promotional resource.
R 40 A resource card. These come with the game rather than from one product.
T 29 A token. Also part of the game rather than of a product.
EXBP 26 A higher-tier base card from a promotional or special product.
EXRP 18 A higher-tier promotional resource card.
EXR 10 A higher-tier resource card.
EXB 2 A higher-tier base card.

Numbers that do not carry a product

192 cards in the game are numbered outside the product families. Those are the resources, tokens and higher-tier bases that come with the game itself. They are not printed as part of a booster pack or a deck, so they have no product code to carry, and they are counted in the game total all the same.

The suffix on a parallel print

A parallel print reuses the number of the card it reprints and adds a suffix, so the same card number can appear more than once with different art. We count base cards once each and report the parallels separately; the parallel prints page has the full count.

Where to use a card number

Every card number in the game appears on this site at least once: in the checklist of the product it was printed in, and in the card-by-card section of that page. It also appears on the page for the mobile suit or pilot it names, when that name is printed on more than one card. The Gundam index is the way in.

Frequently asked questions

What does the first part of a Gundam card number mean?

The product code. GD01 means the first main booster pack, ST01 the first starter deck, EB01 the sixth booster pack, and so on. A card number never crosses products.

What does the number after the dash mean?

The card’s position within that product, in print order. It is a running number, not a rarity code, so a high number is not a rarer card.

Why do some Gundam cards have no product code?

Because they do not belong to one product. Resources, tokens and the higher-tier base and resource cards come with the game itself, and 192 cards are numbered that way.

Does the same card number ever appear twice?

Yes, on parallel prints: the same number is reused with a suffix for a different printing of the same card. We count each base number once and report the parallel printings separately.
