All illustrators/Yuka Morii
Yuka Morii does not draw Pokémon. She models them in clay, arranges a real or built set, and photographs the result — a method she has used on the TCG since 1998, which makes her one of the longest-running and most instantly recognisable contributors to the game.
Quick answer
CardSpicy records 299 Pokémon card printings credited to Yuka Morii — 212 of them in the English run, 69 Japanese printings outside it, 225 with an official card image. The English run spans 2001–2026. 10 of those printings have a Simplified Chinese card. The printings include 18 Japan-only or promo sets. The highest-priced of the artist’s Simplified Chinese cards is $45.70 in PSA 10.
Who they are
Morii graduated from Tokyo Zokei University and took an MA in Living Design at the Kuwasawa Design Institute, where she now lectures part-time. Alongside the TCG she designs mascots for companies, has published several art and culture books, and provides artwork for other publications. Her favourite Pokémon is Ditto, which is either a coincidence or a joke about her chosen medium.
Every card credited to Yuka Morii
Every printing we can attribute to this artist, shown card by card: English first, then the Japanese printings that never had an English release, then the sets that only ever ran in Japan. Each printing is listed under its own language rather than merged, because a Japanese original and its English release are different cards to a collector. Cards whose official image is not in the open card databases are still listed, and say so.

Their career in the TCG
Her first card was Pokémon Plaza, a Jumbo CoroCoro promotional card from 1998. She began working on the TCG regularly in 2000 with Crossing the Ruins…, drawing Caterpie, Kabuto, Corsola and Omanyte; those four became her first cards to appear in English when Neo Discovery was printed in 2001. She has stayed with the Pokémon Card Laboratory continuously since.
The output is steady rather than large: 212 English printings across 83 sets, spread evenly from the e-Card era to the present, plus a pair of Pokémon Tales picture books that were never released outside Japan.
- 1998First card: Pokémon Plaza, a Jumbo CoroCoro promotional card.
- 2000Begins working on the TCG regularly, with four cards in Crossing the Ruins…
- 2001Those four cards reach English players in Neo Discovery.
- 2003–26Publishes two Pokémon Tales picture books (Japan only) and continues on the TCG.
Style and technique
Each card is a small diorama. The Pokémon is a physical object with visible material — fingerprints, tool marks and the slight asymmetry of something made by hand — and it is placed against arranged scenery or an actual location, then lit and photographed.
The photograph is the illustration, so the cards carry real-world light and real-world depth of field. It is the opposite of the flat, high-saturation register that dominates the modern TCG, and it is why collectors can identify a Morii card from across a table without reading the credit line.
