Quick answer
CardSpicy tracks what a publisher has actually put a date on, and Weiss Schwarz has just dated the two least ordinary products in its current line-up. Forbidden Door, built on All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, goes on general release on 15 January 2027 after an early drop on 4 January 2027, and Persona 30th Anniversary releases on 27 November 2026. Both are Bushiroad products dated on the game’s own product pages, and both sit at the same per-pack price as a standard Weiss Schwarz booster.
One is the first real-world crossover the game has ever printed; the other marks thirty years of a video game series that has already been a Weiss Schwarz title more than once.
Why Forbidden Door is a first for the game
Weiss Schwarz has been built on licensed fiction since it launched. Its card pool is drawn from anime, manga, light novels and video games, and its whole design assumes two licensed fictional worlds meeting at the table. A set built on real professional wrestlers and two real promotions is a different category rather than another tie-in, and that is exactly what Forbidden Door is.
The set is a crossover between All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, the two promotions whose joint events give it its name. Bushiroad’s own listing carries the work number FD, and the launch is a booster pack plus two separate trial decks: one built around AEW and one around New Japan.
The practical consequence for a collector is that the audience is not only Weiss Schwarz players. A wrestling crossover reaches people who buy wrestling memorabilia and have never built a Weiss Schwarz deck, and that audience historically pushes demand toward the signed cards rather than the playable ones. Our page on whether it is worth grading goes through the general question of when a premium card repays the cost of grading it.
The Forbidden Door products and the early January drop
The date to hold on to is not the retail date but the early one. Bushiroad lists a first release on 4 January 2027 to coincide with the two promotions’ traditional 4 January Tokyo Dome event, and states that cards from the set become legal in official and sanctioned tournaments from that same date. General retail follows on 15 January 2027.
| Product | Type | Release |
|---|---|---|
| New Japan Pro-Wrestling and AEW: Forbidden Door | Booster pack | 15 January 2027 |
| AEW: Forbidden Door | Trial deck | 15 January 2027 |
| New Japan Pro-Wrestling: Forbidden Door | Trial deck | 15 January 2027 |
Two trial decks rather than one is the detail that matters for anyone deciding how to enter. The AEW deck and the New Japan deck are separate products with separate pools, so a player who wants a single promotion’s line-up buys one of them, while a player who wants the crossover match-up has to buy both.
What is inside a Forbidden Door booster
The booster follows the standard Weiss Schwarz configuration, with one exception that is unusual for the game: the signature programme is very large for a single release.
| Item | As listed by Bushiroad |
|---|---|
| Cards per pack | 8 |
| Suggested retail price | 440 yen per pack, tax included |
| Packs per box | 10 |
| Box price | 4,400 yen, tax included |
| Boxes per carton | 12 |
| Card types | 117 normal, plus 117 or more parallel |
The foil-stamped signature cards are the part that departs from the norm. Bushiroad names wrestlers from the promotions involved, including AEW’s Kazuchika Okada and Swerve Strickland, New Japan’s Shingo Takagi and Great-O-Khan, and STARDOM’s Momo Watanabe and Tam Nakano, and describes the signature list as running to several dozen wrestlers. A signature programme that broad is normally spread across a season of releases rather than concentrated into one set, which is the clearest signal that this product is aimed at the crossover audience rather than at the existing player base.
There are also box and carton bonuses, and both carry the familiar caveat. Bushiroad lists one promo card from a 26-type pool, split 13 standard and 13 parallel, in every box, and a separate promo card from a 12-type pool in every carton. The listing states that inclusion in reprints is undecided, which is the standard reason a first print run of a set like this one matters. Our page on whether to open a booster box or keep it sealed sets out how that undecided-reprint position usually plays out.
Persona 30th Anniversary, dated
The second dated product is a more conventional Weiss Schwarz release, but it is the one with the longer history behind it.
| Item | As listed by Bushiroad |
|---|---|
| Release | 27 November 2026 |
| Work number | PRS |
| Cards per pack | 8 |
| Pack and box price | 440 yen per pack, 4,400 yen per box, tax included |
| Packs per box | 10 |
| Card types | 124 normal, plus 124 or more parallel |
The deck-building note on the product page is the part worth reading closely. Bushiroad states that a Persona deck may be built from cards whose numbers begin with P3, P4, PQ, P5 or PRS, which means the anniversary set is designed to be played alongside the earlier Persona releases rather than only on its own. That is a deliberate choice: an anniversary set that locks out the back catalogue would split the player base, while one that combines with it rewards people who already own the older cards.
The page also confirms eight newly drawn illustrations for the set, one of which is the protagonist of the original Revelations: Persona. Box and carton bonuses are listed as planned, with the same note that inclusion in reprints is undecided.
The rest of the dated Weiss Schwarz line
For context, the person and the crossover are not the only dated products on the page. The schedule around them runs through the end of 2026.
| Date | Product |
|---|---|
| 2 October 2026 | Booster pack anemoi |
| 13 November 2026 | Booster pack BanG Dream! Mugen Daimyutype |
| 27 November 2026 | Booster pack Persona 30th Anniversary |
| 18 December 2026 | Premium booster Chou Kaguya-hime |
| 25 December 2026 | Booster pack Azur Lane Vol.3 |
| 15 January 2027 | Booster pack and trial decks Forbidden Door |
Two of those are worth noting for a different reason. The Azur Lane release is a third volume, and the BanG Dream! release carries a band name rather than a full series title, which is how Bushiroad distinguishes its music-franchise releases from its story-franchise ones. Both patterns are normal for the game and neither signals anything unusual about the supply.
What this page does not claim
Four limits, stated plainly.
- The dates and prices are Bushiroad’s Japanese listings. Weiss Schwarz runs separate Japanese and English editions, and the English edition follows its own published schedule. A Japanese date should not be read as an English-edition date.
- Card lists are not published yet. Bushiroad has given card-type counts and the names of some signature wrestlers and illustrations. It has not published full checklists for either set, and nothing here should be read as a list of the cards inside.
- The crossover is a licensing first, not a rule change. Forbidden Door is a new source material for the game, not a new game system. It uses the standard Weiss Schwarz rules and configuration.
- No valuation. CardSpicy quotes the publisher’s own suggested retail prices, which are set by Bushiroad in Japan, and makes no valuation or investment recommendation about any card or sealed product.
Frequently asked questions
When does the Weiss Schwarz Forbidden Door set release?
General retail release is 15 January 2027. Bushiroad also lists a first release on 4 January 2027 to coincide with the two promotions’ 4 January Tokyo Dome event, and states that the cards become legal in official and sanctioned tournaments from that date.
What makes Forbidden Door different from other Weiss Schwarz sets?
It is the first Weiss Schwarz set built on real professional wrestlers and two real promotions, All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, rather than on an anime, manga or video game license. It is a new source material for the game rather than a new game system.
When is the Persona 30th Anniversary booster released?
27 November 2026, as listed on Bushiroad’s own product page. It carries the work number PRS, contains 124 normal card types plus 124 or more parallel types, and sells at 440 yen per pack or 4,400 yen per box in Japan.
Can Persona 30th Anniversary cards be played with older Persona cards?
Yes. Bushiroad states that a Persona deck may be built from cards whose numbers begin with P3, P4, PQ, P5 or PRS, so the anniversary set is designed to be combined with the earlier Persona releases.
Are these Japanese or English dates?
They are Bushiroad’s Japanese listings. Weiss Schwarz runs separate Japanese and English editions with separate schedules, so a date here is the Japanese edition’s date and should not be treated as an English-edition street date.
