Quick answer
Bandai’s official One Piece card database holds 4,844 card entries, which resolve to 2,785 distinct cards across 60 products, at the date shown on this page. The two numbers differ because a card can be printed more than once: an alternate treatment is a separate entry but the same card. CardSpicy counts both, and says which one it means every time.
“How many cards are there” has two honest answers, and quoting the wrong one is how the number gets inflated by 74 per cent.
The question sounds simple and is not, because a card is two things at once: a card, and a printing of that card. Counting printings gives you 4,844. Counting cards gives you 2,785. Both are countable from the official database, neither is a guess, and a page that gives you only one of them is telling you half of what it knows.
The two numbers, and which is which
An entry is one row in the database: one card in one printing. A card is the thing the entry is a printing of, identified by its code without any suffix. Fold the 2,059 alternate treatments back into the cards they belong to and 4,844 entries become 2,785 cards.
Use the entry count when you are asking what exists to collect. Use the card count when you are asking how big the game is. A set is designed around cards; a market is priced around printings.
By card type
| Type | Distinct cards | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Character | 2,185 | A card that is played to the board. The bulk of the game. |
| Event | 410 | A one-off effect played from hand and then discarded. |
| Leader | 142 | The card the deck is built around. Never shuffled in, and one per deck. |
| Stage | 48 | A card that stays on the board and works over several turns. |
Character cards are 78 per cent of the card pool, which is worth knowing before you try to collect “all of One Piece”: the Leader list is 142 cards and can be finished, the Character list is 2,185 and is still growing.
By rarity
The right-hand column is every entry; the left is the distinct cards those entries resolve to.
| Rarity | Distinct cards | All entries |
|---|---|---|
C Common |
1,162 | 1,547 |
UC Uncommon |
513 | 787 |
R Rare |
540 | 1,007 |
SR Super Rare |
286 | 674 |
L Leader |
139 | 320 |
P Promotion |
105 | 231 |
SEC Secret Rare |
40 | 134 |
SP CARD |
0 | 132 |
TR Treasure Rare |
0 | 12 |
The last two rows are the ones people get wrong. SP Card and Treasure Rare have no distinct cards at all: every one of their 144 entries is a treatment of a card that already exists under an ordinary rarity. There is no card in One Piece whose only printing is an SP Card.
By colour
Six colours, and at card level they are close to even:
| Colour | Distinct cards |
|---|---|
| Red | 474 |
| Blue | 462 |
| Purple | 459 |
| Green | 450 |
| Black | 440 |
| Yellow | 432 |
That is 2,717 single-colour cards. The remaining 68 are printed in two colours, and every single one of them is a Leader — a two-colour Leader is the only way the deck-building rules allow two palettes in one deck.
What the number is not
It is not a print run. The database counts cards that exist, not copies that were made, and Bandai does not publish production numbers.
It is not a pull rate. Nothing in the database says how often a card appears in a pack, and reading a rarity label as a probability is an inference the data does not support.
And it is not stable. Every new set adds entries, and a premium booster can raise the entry count without adding a single new card. Treat the figures on this page as what the database said on the date shown, and re-count from the source whenever the number matters.
Frequently asked questions
How many One Piece cards are there in total?
2,785 distinct cards, from 4,844 database entries, across 60 products at the date shown on this page. The larger number counts printings; the smaller counts cards.
Why do two One Piece card counts not match?
Because alternate treatments are separate entries of the same card. There are 2,059 treatments in the database, and folding them back into their cards is the difference between 4,844 and 2,785.
How many One Piece Leader cards are there?
142 distinct Leader cards. 68 of them are printed in two colours and 74 in one, and they run from 2 to 6 Life, though 136 of the 142 sit at 5 Life or 4.
How many One Piece Character cards are there?
2,185 distinct Character cards, which is 78 per cent of the whole card pool. They are the largest single category by a wide margin, ahead of Events at 410 and Stages at 48.
