Quick answer
CardSpicy tracks Bandai’s Naruto Card Game as a 2027 product, and its rules are already public even though the cards are not generally available. A deck is 57 cards: 51 main-deck cards, 5 Chakra cards and 1 Summon card, built around a Leader card whose colour decides what you are allowed to play. You win by reducing the opposing Leader’s Life to zero. Five card types carry the game — Leader, Character, EX Character, Chakra and Summon — and the worldwide release window is Summer 2027.
The rules were published a year before the cards, which is unusual and unusually useful. If you are deciding whether this is the Naruto game for you, you can answer most of that question today.
The deck: 51, 5 and 1
The published deck construction is the clearest thing Bandai has said about the game, and it is specific.
| Part of the deck | Count | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Leader | 1 | Sets the colour of your deck and carries your Life. Lose it and you lose the game |
| Main deck | 51 | Characters, EX Characters and Chakra, drawn and played through the game |
| Chakra | 5 | The resource cards. Chakra is spent to pay for Jutsu |
| Summon | 1 | Needed to bring EX Characters into play |
| Total | 57 | A fixed size rather than a minimum |
The Leader sitting at the centre of construction is the same structure Bandai uses in its other card games, and it is the decision that shapes everything else. Choosing a Leader is choosing a colour, and the colour decides which cards in your collection are playable at all. That is a real constraint: a strong card in the wrong colour is not a weak card, it is not a card in your deck.
The five card types
Leader. One per deck. It defines your colour identity and holds your Life total, so it is both the engine and the thing you are defending.
Character. The main-deck fighters. Characters are what you put in front of the opponent and what does the work of reducing their Leader’s Life.
EX Character. Stronger units that only enter play once set conditions are met. A Summon card is needed to bring them in, which makes the single Summon slot a resource rather than a formality.
Chakra. The resource cards, five to a deck. Chakra pays for Jutsu — in Naruto terms, the techniques rather than the fighters.
Summon. One per deck, used to call an EX Character into play. With one slot for the whole game, timing is the interesting part.
How a game is won
One condition: reduce the opposing Leader’s Life to zero. There is no second win condition published, which makes this a race rather than a puzzle — the question each turn is how much Life you take off, and how much you can prevent being taken off yours.
That framing matters for deckbuilding. If the only way to win is through the Leader’s Life, then the deck has to answer two questions simultaneously: can it get through, and can it survive being got through. A deck that is all offence has no plan for the turns where the opponent goes first.
What is printed on a character card
Character cards carry three values and an affiliation.
- DMG — how much damage the character deals to a Leader’s Life.
- POW — the character’s power when characters meet each other.
- HP — how much punishment the character can absorb before it leaves play.
- Affiliation — the village, organisation or faction the character belongs to. Confirmed affiliations include Hidden Leaf Village, Village Hidden in the Sound and the Akatsuki Organization.
The three stats are the reason a Naruto deck is not simply a pile of favourites. A high-DMG, low-HP character and a low-DMG, high-HP character cost the same slot and do opposite jobs, and choosing between them is the game.
The one caveat about the reveal
The sample cards shown in the official reveal all carry identical values — the same DMG, the same POW, the same HP across different characters. Bandai has been explicit that these are display cards rather than finalised stat lines.
We are repeating that because it is exactly the kind of thing that gets quoted as though it were a balance snapshot. If you see “every character in the new Naruto card game has the same stats” somewhere, that claim comes from reading display materials as data. Treat the numbers you have seen as placeholders until finalised cards exist.
Which characters are confirmed
Eleven characters have appeared on a card face so far: Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Jiraiya, Itachi, Orochimaru, Tsunade, Boruto, Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara and Gamabunta. Two further names — Choji Akimichi and Minato Namikaze — appear inside card text without appearing as artwork. The artwork mixes original illustration with manga and anime material, and the announcement was accompanied by a new commemorative illustration from Masashi Kishimoto showing Naruto and Sasuke holding a white card and a black card — the two card backs.
The cast spans all three eras of the franchise: the original series, Shippuden and Boruto. That is a wider net than either of the Naruto products you can buy today, and it is the main reason this release matters even if you already play something else.
When and where you can actually play it
The game releases worldwide in Summer 2027. Before that, Bandai is running a convention tour through late 2026, with the Naruto Card Game appearing at New York Comic Con in October, PAX Australia, and the European shows at Essen, Paris and Lucca through October and the start of November. In-store tutorials are scheduled to begin in January 2027, which is the first point at which most people will be able to learn the game in person rather than from a trailer.
Until the release, there is nothing to buy. We state that plainly because the announcement is a year ahead of the product, and a page that implies availability it does not have is worse than one that says to wait.
Two Naruto games in 2027, not one
Naruto Mythos is also a playable Naruto trading card game, it is available now, and it is published by a different company. Bandai has made the distinction explicit: these are two separate products from two separate publishers.
If you want to play Naruto this month, Mythos is the answer. If you want to play the Bandai card game, the answer is to wait for Summer 2027. Our guide to the Naruto card games sets out which of the three products — KAYOU’s collectible line, Mythos and Bandai’s card game — is which, and this article is the long version of the rules half.
Frequently asked questions
How big is a deck in Bandai’s Naruto Card Game?
57 cards: 51 main-deck cards, 5 Chakra cards and 1 Summon card, plus a single Leader card that defines your colour and carries your Life. The size is fixed rather than a minimum, so there is no room to run a larger deck.
How do you win a game?
By reducing the opposing Leader’s Life to zero. No second win condition has been published, so every deck has to plan for both taking Life and protecting its own Leader.
Is Bandai’s Naruto Card Game the same as Naruto Mythos?
No. They are separate games from separate publishers. Mythos is available now and is published by Cicaboom with Zvezdar; Bandai’s Naruto Card Game releases worldwide in Summer 2027.
Are the character stats in the trailer final?
No. The sample cards shown all carry identical values, and Bandai has stated they are display cards rather than finalised balance. Treat any stat line you have seen as a placeholder until the release.
Can I play it before 2027?
Not as a released product. The game is on a convention tour through late 2026, including New York Comic Con in October, and in-store tutorials are scheduled to begin in January 2027. Until the worldwide release, there is nothing to buy.
