OP-16 The Time of Battle: The Set, Explained

Quick answer

OP-16 THE TIME OF BATTLE is the sixteenth numbered booster in the One Piece Card Game, released in English on 12 June 2026, between OP15-EB04 ADVENTURE ON KAMI’S ISLAND in April 2026 and OP-17 in August 2026. Bandai’s card database lists six Leaders in the set and two cards at Secret Rare, and three of the set’s cards carry a block value of X which the database does not explain. CardSpicy indexes One Piece cards by code and by set, so this page collects what can be counted about OP-16 rather than what has been said about it.

A set is easier to read as a block of database rows than as a run of pack openings.

Sets are usually introduced by their theme and their pull rates, and both are hard to verify. What is easy to verify is the shape a set takes in the card database: how many Leaders it holds, which rarities it uses, where it sits in the release order, and which of its cards behave unusually. That shape is what this page describes.

Where OP-16 sits in the release order

The game has shipped seventeen booster products since December 2022, and their order is not strictly numerical. Two of them carry joined codes, which is how Bandai lists them in the database.

Code Released (English) Name
OP-12 August 22, 2025 LEGACY OF THE MASTER
OP-13 November 7, 2025 CARRYING ON HIS WILL
OP14-EB04 January 16, 2026 THE AZURE SEA’S SEVEN
OP15-EB04 April 3, 2026 ADVENTURE ON KAMI’S ISLAND
OP-16 June 12, 2026 THE TIME OF BATTLE
OP-17 August 28, 2026 THE WORLD’S STRONGEST WARRIORS

Reading down the codes gives the wrong order twice. OP14-EB04 and OP15-EB04 are booster entries carrying a compound label, so a list sorted by release date does not run in strict numerical sequence. OP-16 is straightforward by comparison: it is the sixteenth numbered booster, it arrived in June 2026, and nothing about its code needs unpicking.

The six Leaders in OP-16

Every game of One Piece begins with a Leader, and the Leader is the card that decides which colours a deck may use and how much life it defends. OP-16 contains six of them.

Card Leader Colour Life
One Piece card OP16-001 artworkOP16-001 Portgas.D.Ace Red 5
One Piece card OP16-022 artworkOP16-022 Monkey.D.Luffy Green / Blue 4
One Piece card OP16-041 artworkOP16-041 Buggy Blue 5
One Piece card OP16-060 artworkOP16-060 Sengoku Purple 5
One Piece card OP16-079 artworkOP16-079 Yamato Black 5
One Piece card OP16-080 artworkOP16-080 Marshall.D.Teach Black / Yellow 4

Two of the six are two-colour Leaders, which is the smaller group across the game as a whole. The two-colour ones also carry four life rather than five, which is the standard trade made for the wider card pool a second colour opens.

The codes are worth reading as a group. A set’s Leaders occupy a reserved band at the start of its numbering, so a Leader code is a compact way for a seller, a buyer and a tournament judge to agree on which card is meant without describing the artwork.

The two Secret Rare cards

The database lists two OP-16 cards at Secret Rare, the rarity that sits above Super Rare in this game.

Card Character Colour Cost Power
One Piece card OP16-118 artworkOP16-118 Portgas.D.Ace Red 5 6000
One Piece card OP16-119 artworkOP16-119 Marshall.D.Teach Yellow 8 10000

Both also carry a parallel treatment, filed as a separate database entry with a suffix. That is the general rule in this game and the reason a set’s card count is so easy to misread: one card can occupy several rows. OP-16 illustrates it neatly, because the same base Secret Rare appears more than once in the list while the set still contains two of them.

The three OP-16 cards that carry block X

Every card in Bandai’s database carries a block value, and across the 2,785 cards in the game six values appear: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and X. Eight cards carry X, and three of those eight are from OP-16.

Card Name Rarity
One Piece card OP16-063 artworkOP16-063 Kuzan R
One Piece card OP16-065 artworkOP16-065 Sakazuki SR
One Piece card OP16-073 artworkOP16-073 Borsalino R

The block field has one property that makes it interesting and one limitation that makes it frustrating. It is recorded for every card, so it can be counted exactly; it is not printed anywhere on the card, so it cannot be read off a photograph; and the database does not say what it governs. We report the three cards and the value they carry, and stop there. A claim that X means a specific rule would be a claim from outside the card data.

What the set is about

Two descriptions circulate. One places OP-16 in the Paramount War storyline and names its sought-after cards as a Secret Rare Ace, a Secret Rare Blackbeard and a Treasure Rare Vista. The other attaches the set to the name it is sold under, THE TIME OF BATTLE, and groups its Manga-treated cards around Sakazuki and Kuzan. Both are third-party readings of the same product, and they do not exclude each other: a set can be themed on one arc and still be discussed through whichever of its cards is most wanted that month.

What we can verify ourselves is narrower and more useful. The set contains six Leaders, two Secret Rares, and a body of Character cards that includes Portgas.D.Ace, Marshall.D.Teach, Edward.Newgate, Boa Hancock, Buggy and Yamato among others. Which of them is the most wanted card is a question about a market rather than about a set, and it changes faster than a set does.

How many cards are in OP-16

Here a page about a set has to be careful. Retail listings describe OP-16 as containing 126 cards plus 1, and that figure is widely repeated. Bandai has not published a card count for the set on its product page in a form we can verify, and the number of rows in the card database is larger than the number of cards, because treatments are filed separately.

So this page does not print a total for OP-16. It prints the parts that can be counted — six Leaders, two Secret Rares, three block X cards — and leaves the size of the set to the source that owns the number.

Frequently asked questions

When was OP-16 released?

OP-16 THE TIME OF BATTLE was released in English on 12 June 2026. It is the sixteenth numbered booster in the game, arriving after OP15-EB04 in April 2026 and before OP-17 in August 2026.

How many Leaders are in OP-16?

Six: OP16-001 Portgas.D.Ace, OP16-022 Monkey.D.Luffy, OP16-041 Buggy, OP16-060 Sengoku, OP16-079 Yamato and OP16-080 Marshall.D.Teach. Two of the six are two-colour Leaders and carry four life instead of five.

How many cards are in OP-16?

We do not print a total for OP-16, because the widely repeated figure of 126 plus 1 is a retail listing rather than a published official count, and the card database holds more rows than it holds cards.

What does block X mean on an OP-16 card?

Three OP-16 cards carry it: OP16-063 Kuzan, OP16-065 Sakazuki and OP16-073 Borsalino. The database does not explain what the block field governs, so we report the value and claim no rule for it.

Does OP-16 have a Manga Rare?

Third-party coverage groups Manga-treated OP-16 cards around Sakazuki and Kuzan. Manga Rare is a community name; the official treatment name is Comic Parallel, and the card database records the treatment rather than the nickname.

Card statistics on this page are counted from Bandai’s own card database at the date shown, so they move as the database is updated. Prices are not quoted here: this site prices graded cards in US dollars from observed sales, and a raw-card figure would be a different number measured a different way.
