The Five Infernape Cards Worth Owning in Simplified Chinese

Written by

in

Here are the top 5 Infernape cards in Simplified Chinese, ranked by PSA 10 value.

Quick answer

CardSpicy (cardspicy.com) ranks the Infernape cards of the Dragon Ball card games by recorded PSA 10 sale value rather than by asking price, and lists every Infernape printing that has a tracked graded sale.

Infernape’s entire priced catalogue is one Gem Pack group. Ten cards exist in the Chinese-only sets; the seven that carry a tracked PSA 10 value are all the treatments of a single group inside Gem Pack Vol. 4, running #901 to #907. Six of them sit within seven dollars of each other, and the seventh is $140.

That is what separates this list from the ones around it. Most characters here draw their ranked cards from three or four products, so the list mixes a Gem Pack group with a tag-team line and a scattered print or two. Infernape has no such spread. Its list is one product, one group of seven treatments, and a single card at the top that is worth three times the next one.

How this list was built

Three rules, applied in this order.

  • The card has to sit in a Chinese-only set. Every card below carries a set code ending in C — CBB4C, with three unpriced prints from csv7C. That trailing letter marks a Simplified Chinese print run, and it is the dependable way to tell a Chinese-only card from a card that merely happens to be printed in Chinese. Reading a Chinese set code from end to end covers the whole system.
  • The card has to have a tracked PSA 10 value. Ten Infernape cards exist in these sets and seven have a PSA 10 price on record. The three that do not are all the same card number — Infernape #42 from Blade Awakening, in its plain, Master Ball and Poké Ball printings. None of them has a graded sold record yet, and a card with no price cannot be ranked.
  • The card has to be a Pokémon card. Sealed product, trainer cards and energy are out of scope.

One exclusion applies here as it does to every character ranking we publish. Promo printings of Infernape exist in Chinese and they are not on this list. Promo numbering is shared across the Chinese branches — the same promo number appears in Traditional Chinese product as well — so a promo number on its own cannot establish which branch a card came from. Everything below sits inside a numbered set whose code ends in C, which is unambiguous.

The top 5, ranked

5. Infernape #901 — Gem Pack Vol. 4 (CBB4C) — $38.58

Raw $1.84 · grade 9 $12.51

The first of the group by card number and the last card in this top five. Raw copies are tracked at $1.84 against a grade 9 record of $12.51, so the step from raw to PSA 10 is 21.0 times. It finishes thirteen cents below the card above it and eighty-nine cents above the last card in the group.

4. Infernape #905 — Gem Pack Vol. 4 (CBB4C) — $38.71

Raw $1.99 · grade 9 $12.56

The fifth card of the group, and one of three in this top five priced within twenty-six cents of each other. Raw copies sit at $1.99 — the second highest raw price of the six ordinary treatments — and the multiple to PSA 10 is 19.5, the second lowest of the six. It holds 10.3 percent of the character.

3. Infernape #904 — Gem Pack Vol. 4 (CBB4C) — $38.84

Raw $1.90 · grade 9 $12.60

The third card of the group by number, and the highest of the ordinary treatments after #906. Its raw price of $1.90 is mid-table for the group, and its grade 9 record of $12.60 is the second highest of the six. It finishes thirteen cents above the card below it.

2. Infernape #906 — Gem Pack Vol. 4 (CBB4C) — $43.73

Raw $2.95 · grade 9 $14.04

The highest card in the group apart from the seventh print, and the only treatment here above $40. Raw copies are tracked at $2.95 — the highest raw price of any Infernape card except the one at number one — and grade 9 at $14.04. The step to PSA 10 is 14.8 times, the narrowest multiple on the list, because the raw price already carries a visible share of the value. It holds 11.6 percent of the character.

1. Infernape #907 — Gem Pack Vol. 4 (CBB4C) — $140

Raw $5.75 · grade 9 $17.87

The most valuable Infernape card in Simplified Chinese, and the only one above $100. It is the seventh and final print of the Vol. 4 group, and it is worth 3.2 times the card below it. Raw copies are tracked at $5.75, nearly double the most expensive ordinary treatment in the same group, so part of the gap exists before grading as well. It holds 37.2 percent of the character on its own, and the step from raw to PSA 10 is 24.3 times.

What the ranking shows

Infernape is the clearest example on this site of what a Gem Pack group looks like when nothing else is attached to it. Seven cards, six of them ordinary treatments within seven dollars of each other, and a seventh print that stands well clear at the top.

Band Cards Combined PSA 10 value Share of total
$100 – $250 — ranked 1 1 $140 37.2%
Under $100 — ranked 2 to 7 6 $236 62.8%
Every priced Infernape card 7 $376 100%

Two further points run across the whole group.

The six ordinary treatments are one card priced six ways. They run from $37.69 to $43.73, and three of them — #904, #905 and #901 — sit within twenty-six cents of each other. Their raw prices are between $1.65 and $2.95 and their grade 9 records between $12.26 and $14.04. This is what a Gem Pack group is by construction: one artwork reprinted six ways — a plain print and five foil or patterned treatments, all issued at the same rarity — with a seventh print closing the run. In Vol. 4 that seventh print is the most valuable card of its group in 27 of the 28 groups the volume contains, and Infernape is one of them. The volume-by-volume guide sets out how those groups are built.

The seventh print separates on the raw price, not only on the grade. At $5.75 it is nearly twice the most expensive ordinary treatment in the group, so the gap between #907 at $140 and #906 at $43.73 is not a grading effect. The card is scarce as a raw printing and the market prices it that way both before and after grading.

Where Infernape is printed

Product Set code Infernape cards Priced
Gem Pack Vol. 4 CBB4C 7 7
Blade Awakening csv7C 3 0
Total 10 7

The counts are cards, not artworks. Gem Pack Vol. 4 gives Infernape one full group, running #901 to #907 — six ordinary treatments plus the seventh print at the top. Blade Awakening prints the same card number three times at #42, and none of the three carries a price. There is no third product, and no tag-team line.

Infernape is a fourth-generation Pokémon, so — unlike Charizard and Pikachu — he has no Collect 151 entry, since that set covers only the original 151 characters. He has no tag-team printing either, which is why a character with ten cards still produces a list that is a single product from top to bottom.

If you want one card

  • One card, no budget limit: the seventh print from Gem Pack Vol. 4 at #907, at $140. It is the highest tracked Infernape card in the language by a factor of 3.2, and its raw price of $5.75 is nearly double the next card in its own group.
  • The card that grades up most: the same #907, at 24.3 times its raw price. It is also the card with the highest raw price in the group, so the multiple comes from a high graded value rather than from a low raw one.
  • The lowest entry point: the group print at #902, at $37.69. It is the last Infernape card in the ranking, and all seven priced cards fall inside a band of $102 in total, most of it accounted for by the single card at the top.

Frequently asked questions

Which Infernape card is the most valuable in Simplified Chinese?

The seventh print from Gem Pack Vol. 4 — #907 — carries the highest tracked PSA 10 value of any Infernape card in the Chinese-only numbered sets, at $140.00. It is the only Infernape card in the language above $100, and the next card below it is tracked at $43.73. Chinese promo printings sit outside that comparison, because their numbering is shared between the Chinese branches.

How many Infernape cards are there in the Chinese-only sets?

Ten, across two products: seven from Gem Pack Vol. 4 and three from Blade Awakening. All seven Gem Pack cards carry a tracked PSA 10 value; none of the three Blade Awakening prints does. The seven priced cards run #901 to #907.

Why does one Infernape card cost three times the others?

Because it is the seventh print of the group rather than one of its six ordinary treatments. A Gem Pack group prints the same artwork six ways at the same rarity and then closes the run with a seventh print, and in Vol. 4 that seventh print is the most valuable card of its group in 27 of the 28 groups the volume contains. Infernape’s is among the clearest: it is tracked raw at $5.75 against $1.65 to $2.95 for the six treatments, so the gap exists before grading.

Is a PSA 10 worth the premium over a raw card?

Broadly yes, and the multiples are consistent across the group. Raw prices of $1.65 to $2.95 turn into $37.69 to $43.73 for the six treatments, multiples between 14.8 and 22.8, and the seventh print moves 24.3 times from $5.75 to $140.00. There is no card on this list where grading does nothing, and none where it does dramatically more than the rest. Grading outcomes are never certain, and nothing here is a prediction about what any individual card will grade at.

How does Infernape compare with the other characters ranked here?

His $376 combined total is the second smallest of the character rankings published on this site, and his ranked cards all come from a single Gem Pack group. His top card at $140 sits below the Psyduck, Charizard and Gengar ceilings. For a wider view of the market rather than one character, the ten most popular Chinese-exclusive cards ranks across Pokémon, and the price ladder sorts the same catalogue into bands.
